35mm film turned out to not be as good as our memories thought it was. Most people feel that 35mm film yields about 12-18 megapixels, at best. Did a pretty decent job IMHOĬamera scanning has been done a lot. I got a Canon scanner years go to do that as well as negatives and prints.

CANON MACRO LENS ADAPTER DRIVERS

i still have it but its drivers are not compatible with windoz10 You probably should consider a specialized scanner for this job! i had an Epson scanner that came with the required pieces that would make the job real easy! also, that scanner was great for scanning document and photos by itself so it was nice to have it. I also have the Canon 50mm EF, an old Canon 50mm FD, and a Leica 50mm Summicron which (I assume) can be mounted w an adapter. Am I missing something?Īlso, I was thinking of using my 85mm Canon EF lens (NON-L) as it is sharp corner to corner and also a prime. It seems to me that the case pretty clear favors the Kenko set. Also, the longest Kenko is 30mm and all three are stackable and they advertise that autofocus is preserved. Canon, OTOH, are a bit pricier with their 25mm tube listing for $140. Kenko makes a three-piece set currently listed on BH for $130. This raises the question of which expansion tube. Instead of buying a canon macro lens I was thinking of using expansion tubes mounted on one of my lenses. The resulting image should be between 100 to 150 mpx. If I can get a 1:1 image (at 90degree angle) I can then capture four section shots (ie, the camera would be at 90degree angle to negative so the negative’s 24mm side would be photographed on the 36mm side of the camera sensor) and then stitch them in LR.

My thought is to shoot the images on my 5DsR. Although I’ve been shooting over twenty years, I have no experience at all w macro photography so any critique or suggestion to my plan would be welcome. I need to scan a good deal of old family negatives and had the idea of trying to use my canon gear for this.
